Year 9 trip to Swanage

Year 9 trip to Swanage

On 24th September, Year 9 accompanied the Geography Department on a field trip to Swanage. Beginning in Poole Harbour, they took a boat trip around Old Harry Rocks and into Swanage pier. Although the trip began in dismal drizzle, just before we reached Old Harry Rocks magnificent sunshine appeared, reflecting off the bright white chalk. Benson Hsiao felt that this was the best part of the trip, whilst Hattie Dunn enjoyed seeing a seal peaking out of the water just below the headland. Year 9 felt very sorry for the pupils from another school at the top of the headland, who had clearly been caught in the earlier deluge.

We sped on to Swanage, and Sophie Watson said that this was her favourite part of the trip as the water was splashing up all around the boat. On arrival at Swanage, the pupils scrambled up on to the pier, and were delighted to see an old fashioned steam boat which had just docked. They spent the rest of the day field sketching and collecting data around Swanage. For Thomas Carley this was the best part of the day. He enjoyed collecting his data and then having time to walk around Swanage and get to know the town. Year 9 will write up their data into a project on return to class.
