YEAR 6 ENTERTAIN WITH SHAKESPEARE
To mark this year, the 400th anniversary since Shakespeare’s death, Year 6 have been immersed in the mysterious and magical world of A Midsummer Night’s Dream. They performed last week, to a packed Merlin Theatre in Frome as part of The Shakespeare Schools Festival.
They produced a modern and highly entertaining version, enthralling the audience with an interpretation that was equally phantasmal and hilarious.
The story was clearly presented by the intrepid documentary makers Jeffery (Ben Wagstaff) and Carl (Harry Butterworth). They ably guided the audience through the complicated affairs of the star-crossed lovers, the mysterious goings on of the fairy kingdom and the ‘lamentable comedy’ put on by the mechanicals.
It was a spectacular production, the confidence of these 10 and 11 year olds was astounding and every child in Year 6 must be congratulated on the energy, enthusiasm and commitment they put into the show. They embraced the opportunity to perform in a professional theatre and their enjoyment was echoed by the laughter and rapturous applause of the audience.
It was a delight to see them soaking up the well earned praise given to them by the theatre professionals at the end of a fantastic evening.
