Year 2 visit Stonehenge
On Wednesday 11th June, Year 2 visited Stonehenge as part of their History topic The Stone Age.
English Heritage gave us a tour and we travelled to the stones by the new road train. Everyone was really excited when we spotted the stones in the distance but it was not until we came close to them that we realised how big they actually are.
We learned that the stones were a temple used to celebrate the Summer and Winter solstices. We also learned when and how Stonehenge was built. After visiting the stones we visited the Bronze Age barrows and discovered that important people were buried inside each mound. We also got a chance to visit the fantastic new visitor centre and were able to look inside the reconstructed Neolithic roundhouses.
We had a great time that was made even better by the new facilities at the site.
