SPORTS ROUNDUP

SPORTS ROUNDUP

The latest roundup from Mr Lyons.

The recent storms have hit some of our sporting plans over this last fortnight – although we have fought to keep as much from being postponed as we can!

Last week the senior girls played their regional hockey finals at Millfield.  On a bitterly cold day the girls played some good hockey but were unable to make it through their group with a win and two narrow losses consigning them to third place.

The U12, 13 & 14 girls all played mid-week fixtures with Royal High and Prior Park – all of the hard work the girls have been putting in really has been evident in their performances, which have been getting better and better as the term has progressed.

A flooded hockey pitch at Stonar meant there were only rugby fixtures played last weekend. With the opposition a little short of players, we adapted the games, lent some boys and had some useful and competitive rugby, in some ‘seasonal’ conditions – I will admit to being quite content when it was time for Bacon sandwiches post-game at Stonar with the senior boys!

On Thursday this week the 1st XI footballers head to Taunton for a long away day and a senior girls netball team make a much quicker trip across town to Kigdown.

There are some really challenging fixtures in store for our pupils this weekend.  Rugby with Leweston and Bryanston and our 1st & 2nd XI girls hockey taking on sides from Marlborough College.
