SPORTS ROUNDUP

SPORTS ROUNDUP

The latest roundup from Mr Lyons.

We have enjoyed a suitably busy start to sport after the half term break and have basked in the chilling but mercifully dry conditions!

Our U15 girls hockey team continue to be in fine form playing some excellent hockey in their fixture with Royal High School in Bath on the second day back.

The boys football 1st XI had a productive trip down to Canford on Thursday of the same week.  Their performance setting up what could be a league defining clash with Milton Abbey on Cold Harbour this afternoon as I write on Thursday morning.

Last Friday we took 40 pupils to the area cross country competition at Stonar School.  Although there was no climb to match that of Elm Hill and our own House Cross Country, there was plenty of challenging terrain.  All pupils ran well in what is an undoubtedly tough event.  Congratulations to Immy S, Ben C-B, Adie G, Jess, G, Chiara G, Griffin W and Rosie C-B who all qualified for the County round to be held in January.

Trainers and kit were speedily washed (thank you parents!) ready for more sport the following day.  With rugby and hockey block fixtures with Westonbirt and Leweston.  I was particularly pleased to hear the improvements that our U12, 13 and 14 girls hockey teams have been making as a result of their hard work with their respective coaches.  From my position at the sideline of the 1st XV fixture, it sounded like the U15 rugby may have been the pick of the contests, with just a score separating the teams.  A tight encounter will have been good preparation for the U15s, who travel to Marlborough in the coming weeks for the 4th round of their National Vase campaign.

I hope you enjoy a quiet weekend as we look ahead to a packed four weeks of sport leading up to the Christmas when we return.
