SPORTS ROUNDUP
The latest roundup from Mr Lyons.
Last week really felt like we really kicked off the year of school sport, and there were some tired bodies by the close of play on Saturday – mine included!
A full week of games and PE lessons and sports clubs, with some U12 and U13 hockey fixtures on Wednesday afternoon culminated with our first full weekend block fixture with Monkton Combe and Wells Cathedral.
On Saturday morning, before our fixtures we hosted our annual Prep Rugby and Hockey Festival at the senior school. Our senior pupils take on the officiating and sports leader roles for the day – and as ever they were fantastic, representing the School and themselves superbly. After a quick stop for lunch all of the pupils then headed off to their fixtures, where we played some competitive fixtures with Monkton and Wells; as ever, some wins and some losses.
I returned to school in the late afternoon, with the 2nd XI girls who had enjoyed a rousing sing along on the bus trip home to catch the end of the 1st XI fixture. Both teams had endured defeats, but as I reflected on the whole of the day, I found it was hard to be too disappointed. The experience they had gained in the morning at the prep festival, the new friendships made with first time team mates and the camaraderie forged were all so positive and a great reminder of why playing sport is such a great way to spend a Saturday!
I hope you enjoy an active quiet weekend and look forward to a bumper four weeks leading up to half term, culminating with House Cross Country, which returns to its traditional slot on the final Thursday before the break.
