Sports round-up – 29th November 2014
With no fixtures on the exeat weekend, our rugby and hockey teams were still able to fit in some matches mid-week.
The Senior School’s rugby teams faced Milton Abbey. While the 1st XV and Under 15 XV suffered defeats, it was the Under 14 and Under 16 teams who stole the show. The Under 14 XV put in a much better display in their 50-12 win, with Felix Sheves dominant throughout, scoring four tries. The Under 16 XV continued their good form with an impressive all-round display in a 22-12 win, with Josh Haines scoring two tries.
On Tuesday, the girls’ Under 14 B Hockey Team were able to give everyone a run out in their 5-0 victory over King Edward’s School, Bath. On Thursday, the Warminster 1st XI put in their best performance of the year with a 5-1 victory over local rivals Clayesmore School.
The Prep School faced Hazlegrove School on Thursday. In the rugby, the Under 9s unluckily lost their unbeaten record but the Under 7/8s continued to make improvements, achieving a 9-9 draw. The girls’ hockey teams worked hard but ended up losing two of their three Under 8/9 games while the Under 8 team went down 1-3.
With one last weekend of rugby and girls’ hockey fixtures to go, I do urge you all to come and support the pupils. The final 1st XV match of the season will be at Sexey's School, Bruton and will be officiated by former international referee Tony Spreadbury. Kick off is at 2pm. Meanwhile, the girls’ 1st XI go in search of an unbeaten season of hockey with a 2pm start at home, also against Sexey’s.
