Sports round-up – 22nd November 2014

This weekend saw a reduced fixture list due to the excellent Senior School production of Anything Goes.

The Senior School rugby teams faced Wells Cathedral School in a block fixture. The 1st XV had played Wells in a pre-season game and acquitted themselves much better this time around, despite losing. The Under 16 XV continue to grow in confidence and put in arguably their best performance from the past two seasons in a 22-12 win. The Under 15 XV were keen to make amends for the previous week's result and so they did. Despite having a number of players out due to injury, illness and the play, a comprehensive 60-7 win was achieved with an outstanding display from Mark Antrobus. The Under 14 XV have struggled this term and went down to a strong Wells team, but the Under 13A XV continued to display their promise with a 50-7 win. Congratulations to Joe Wildman for putting in a fantastic display at flanker, coupled with some very strong running. Well done also to Mathias Folkesson who scored six tries.

The Under 13 Girls’ Hockey Team played Kingswood School in an eleven-a-side game in preparation for next year. Despite some good passages of play, Warminster found it difficult to break down the Kingswood midfield and the match ended in a 5-0 loss. The Under 15 XI continued to show improvements in their performance and were unlucky not to win against Ryde, Isle of Wight. Goals from Ellie Dent and Ellie Clarke gave Warminster a 2-1 lead but a late penalty stroke by Ryde levelled the scores. Well done to Sophie Hopkins who once again is showing some great promise.

For the Prep School, the Under 11 Rugby Team played in a tough tournament at King Edward's School, Bath. Despite not winning any of their matches, they pushed all of their opponents really hard and were very unlucky to come away without any points. Particular mention must go to Oliver Nathan and Oakley Gompels.
