SPORTS ROUND-UP – 14 NOVEMBER

SPORTS ROUND-UP – 14 NOVEMBER

In the morning hockey fixtures, the girls 1st XI hockey team got back to winning ways with a well deserved 2-0 victory with Samiya Plank and Jannike Smye the goal scorers. The U15’s continue to struggle to put the ball in the back of the net despite dominating large periods of the game and unfortunately lost 0-1. The U13’s continue to make big strides with a convincing 8-2 victory with Mathilde Emorine scoring a hat-trick, Lauren Melia and Masie Craven-Smith scoring two goals each. The U12’s also played some excellent hockey but again failed to score the goals their play deserved. Goal scorer Megan Galpin played well and Anna Payne was player of the match.

In the afternoon, the Warminster rugby sides faced a tough set of fixtures against Clayesmore School. The 1sts having shipped two early tries through basic mistakes, camped themselves for large periods of the game in the Clayesmore half. Despite dominating possession and territory, the Clayesmore defence was simply too strong and held out for a 14-0 victory. The U16’s continue to make improvements in their 19-10 victory.

The U15’s put their unbeaten record on the line against a very strong Clayesmore team. Despite a number of players putting in some outstanding displays, Robbie Maclean, Felix Sheves and Stanley Admiral in particular, they simply could not keep out Clayesmore and lost 10-44.

The U14 team have been decimated by injuries and illness over the past two weeks. However, it was pleasing to hear that the team never gave up and all of the players continued to put their body on the line.

The U13’s teams both lost to a strong Clayesmore outfit. However, the A team game was a little closer than the scoreline suggested as Clayesmore continually relied on the powerful No 8 to power through the Warminster defence.

The U11A team travelled to Kingswood for a hockey festival. As this was a B team festival the U11A team were out of position, but still displayed great strength and dominance, adapting positively to a new situation.

The U11A rugby team fought hard against Kingswood with a 5-4 win. A special mention goes to Wolfie Mowbray who scored 4 tries! The U11B rugby team played a development match against Kingswood. Teams were mixed up to allow a greater focus on enjoyment and participation of rugby.

The U10A and B hockey teams were victorious against Bruton School and Kingswood school. The U8’s attended a hockey festival at Monkton Prep school and successfully scored many goals throughout the day. Well done to the girls who displayed a great improvement in their defensive skill set.
