Biology is the study of life.  An interest in life is natural for humans and this is what we hope to foster in our pupils. Biologists attempt to understand the living world at all levels from within the cell to the dynamics within ecosystems.  We want our pupils to understand through relating structure and form to function. Theory is supported by an experimental approach.

Our aim is to foster a fascination and interest in living things.  Our target is to develop an understanding and appreciation of biological knowledge, the biological world and the human impact on the environment.

Facilities Available

The Wessex Science Centre was officially opened by HRH The Earl of Wessex in 2007.

The Wessex Science Centre contains two beautifully designed, state-of-the-art, fully networked and excellently resourced Biology Laboratories.  These laboratories have been individually designed to increase versatilty and provide excellent and comfortable environments in which to learn and instruct. Together with excellent technician support, the department provides an outstanding learning environment.

Examination boards

  • In Key Stage 4, Biology is offered as a single science option following the EDEXCEL GCSE specification.

In Key Stage 5, pupils opting to follow the A level route do so by following the AQA A Level Biology programme.  Alternatively, Biology is an option that can be selected as part of the International Baccalaureate programme.
