The Photography Department is housed in its own building with a dedicated teaching space equipped with a suite of computers where the pupils can access Adobe Photoshop for photo editing. The Photographic Studio allows pupils to experience and explore the use of different lighting techniques to develop and enhance their own work. Sixth Form pupils are also able to use the darkroom to explore traditional film processing and printing.
The aim of the course is to introduce pupils to the creative processes in photography while developing their understanding of both technical skills and visual language. The essence of photography as a creative medium is at the core of the teaching and pupils are encouraged to explore both manual and digital methods of image manipulation. Studying creative subjects can be hugely beneficial in developing self-confidence, resilience, and perseverance.
It is a requirement for pupils to have their own DSLR, to give ownership of the creative process to pupils. It is important that pupils want to and enjoy taking images and our hope is to develop a lifelong passion for photography.
