Remembering in Art

Local artist and former member of staff Mrs Sarah Walters held a masterclass with the Sixth Form earlier this month. Sixth Formers had the opportunity to work in a range of different media including collage, charcoal, pastels and paint and the outcome was a collection of pieces inspired by those Old Verlucians who fought in the First and Second World Wars.
The masterclass approach allowed pupils to consider subject, composition, layering and colour, with each artwork incorporating text from war poems in its design. This proved a most rewarding day; pupils were able to spend an extended period of time on a piece of work and gain valuable knowledge and ideas from Mrs Walters.
The pieces of work are to be displayed around the school as a tribute to the pupils and staff of this school who fought and died for their country.
