Reception recorders
The Music Department at Warminster Prep School has been buzzing in recent weeks with sweet sounds from Reception Class. They have been very excited to have had their first ever recorder lesson and, more importantly, to have received their very own recorders. In their first week they learned to play note 'B'. They are following the fantastic Ready Steady Recorder course which encourages success with special wall charts and stickers, culminating in certificates later in their school career when they can play a large range of notes.
This is just a small part of the Pre-Prep music curriculum at Warminster. The children also have weekly singing sessions and all of Reception Class have chosen to be members of the Pre-Prep Choir. On Monday they enjoyed watching their friends in Years 1 and 2 performing in a special Pre-Prep soloists concert. Many children from Year 1 upwards have individual instrumental lessons each week and were keen to demonstrate their burgeoning skills to parents and friends alike. The concert saw children performing on many instruments, including the violin, cello, piano, double bass and drum kit. Across the Prep School as a whole, around 80% of pupils learn to play a musical instrument.
