PREP SPORTS ROUND-UP – 9 JANUARY

PREP SPORTS ROUND-UP – 9 JANUARY

This week Year 3 attended a trampolining taster session at Springboard Gymnastics Centre which they all thoroughly enjoyed.

On Saturday 9 January all boys in years 3-6 were invited to attend a pre-season hockey coaching session ready for the start of their matches.  We were lucky with the weather, and no-body got wet!  There was a great turn out.  A huge welcome to Mr Titley, our new Deputy Head, who is very keen on sport.  He will be a huge asset to boys sport.

For the girls, there were some very early season matches.  U8, U9 & U10/11B played fixtures against All Hallows. They were all played in good spirit and a great deal was learnt.

The U10/11B team were lucky enough to play indoors.  We took a squad of ten players, to allow Mrs Butterworth to check out lots of different combinations on the court.  Four of the girls had never played a netball fixture before, but Mrs Butterworth was extremely impressed with all the girls.  Isabel Woods, the captain of this team scored five wonderful goals, and  Maddy Burdess contributed another two goals.  She also played very effectively as GK.  So many positive points, it should be a fun season!

The U9 team started their match against All Hallows on the back foot.  All Hallows qickly scored three goals.  However, some amazing defending from Milly Watts, Sophie Heritage and Ava Dempsey, stopped them scoring anymore goals all match!  Warminster had lots of scoring opportunities, but failed to convert.

The U8 team played at home.  Lots of very positive comments from parents, great fun was had by all and Miss Gough was delighted with the footwork.  This is encouraging for our Year 3 age group.  Fantastic shooting came from Bronwen Rogers (Captain) and Amélie Mortimer.  There was also strong play in defence by Elizabeth Valentine, Topsy Talbot and Skyla Mercer.  It was reported that all the girls showed good communication, some felt confident enough to play a number of different positions, and all of the girls showed very accurate passing skills.
