IF YOU GO DOWN TO THE WOODS TODAY
Mrs Cross, Head of Pre-Prep, tells us about the recent forest adventure for Pre-Prep.
“Pre-Prep loved their first visit of the year to Warminster's Forest School. After a bumpy ride up the farm track, we were all asked to find magic keys to enter the forest. These had to be a sign of autumn or a perfect leaf. Having searched carefully to find something suitable, we were able to enter our special forest school area. The morning started with a game of ‘1,2,3, where are you?’ and then we separated into groups for class activities which for Reception and Year 1 included bark rubbing and colour matching. Year 2 read their class book ‘Into the Forest’ by Antony Browne and used natural resources to write notes for the daddy in the story. There was also a science element, looking for living things and things which had been living or had never been living. We then came back to the campfire for a delicious hot dog lunch with sausages cooked over the open fire. This was definitely the best part of the day for some children! After lunch children had some free time to play or practise whittling with vegetable peelers to make magic wands. After such a busy time we returned tired but happy.”
