Next Thomas Arnold Lecture
We are delighted to announce that the next in the current series of Thomas Arnold Lectures will be delivered by Lieutenant Colonel the Reverend Nicholas Mercer, Assistant Chaplain at Sherborne School. He will be speaking on the topic of 'Human rights under a Conservative government' at 7pm on Wednesday 18th March 2015 in the Thomas Arnold Hall.
Revd Mercer is a specialist in human rights law and was named Liberty Human Rights Lawyer of the Year for 2011–2012 for “integrity and courage in the face of the dissembling and denial of human rights abuses in Iraq in 2003″.
Educated at Uppingham School and at St Andrew’s and Oxford Universities, Revd Mercer was admitted as a solicitor in 1990 and commissioned into the Army Legal Service in 1991. He has served in Northern Ireland, Bosnia Herzegovina, Cyprus and Germany and was the Command Legal Adviser for the Iraq War 2003. He left the army as Lieutenant Colonel in 2011 and was ordained in the Salisbury Diocese eight days later.
The School community is very much looking forward to welcoming Revd Mercer and gaining an insight into the hugely topical issue of human rights.
