TA TALK: INVICTUS
The Invictus Games is about much more than just sport – it captures hearts, challenges minds and changes lives.
On a trip to the Warrior Games in the USA in 2013, HRH The Duke of Sussex was inspired by his visit and the Invictus Games was born. The word ‘invictus’ means ‘unconquered’. It embodies the fighting spirit of wounded, injured and sick Service personnel and personifies what these tenacious men and women can achieve post injury. The Games harness the power of sport to inspire recovery, support rehabilitation and generate a wider understanding and respect for those who serve their country.
We are delighted to welcome Vicki, Gavin and Spencer to Warminster in September, for a TA Talk to find out about their experiences at the Invictus Games. All three are Warminster School parents and we have been thrilled to support them during their journey and their time in the Hague.
The evening will fundraise for the CiaO Foundation and Help for Heroes. It is the belief of the CiaO Foundation that anyone can be a hero. Our aim is to provide aid, funding, practical support and encouragement to individuals whose life circumstances, health or injuries have resulted in them facing seemingly insurmountable challenges and help them achieve their goals. The CiaO Foundation is a charitable trust that has supported hundreds of individuals in improving their futures, helping them to face the challenges of serious adversity, including paralysis, mental illness and life-changing injuries.
Spencer comments “The support from Help for Heroes definitely makes life better for us all. Having always been active, MS left me feeling like something had been ripped away. But through H4Hs I’ve been introduced to adaptive sport, and that’s helped me discover what I can do, rather than what I can’t.”
Meet Vicki, Gavin and Spencer and get the inside track on Invictus and help raise funds for two wonderful causes.
Taking place at 7:30pm, Thursday 22nd September, Boniface Hall. Tickets are £8 and booking is essential to secure a place. Book here
