SALISBURY SCHOOLS EXHIBITION 2021 - “FROM SMALL ACORNS ...”

SALISBURY SCHOOLS EXHIBITION 2021 - “FROM SMALL ACORNS ...”

We were delighted that pupils from the Prep and Senior School have been able to take part in the ‘From small acorns…’ exhibition at the Young Gallery in Salisbury.

Pupils from Year 3 and 4 used the ‘From small acorns…’ theme of the exhibition, to grow their very own abstract sculptures using recycled newspaper.  Yayoi Kusama uses mirror glass to curate her work; they have displayed their sculptures in a similar way, using the mirror not only in the obvious visual sense, but to represent their own personal reflections of how we grow and develop as human beings.

Pupils from Year 5 Art Club recognised that we need SPACE in order to GROW and develop LAYERS of our character, behaviour and physical being; the children began by working on textural layers of collage, then adding their own colourful, close-up and detailed sketches of organic plant growth – new shoots, new beginnings…

Senior School Art Scholars took inspiration from natural forms such as seed heads and drew observational studies of these forms.  Maps were collaged onto the pieces to represent the journey that nature takes ‘From small acorns…. ‘The pieces were displayed as round works of art representing the circle of life.
