On Thursday 12th September, children from Nursery to Year 6 began their Africa topic with a day out at Longleat.
The weather was glorious and the morning began with a workshop for each year group on African animals. Sadly, no lions to pet, but we did get to hold and pet a hissing cockroach, a python, a pancake tortoise and a giant land snail! This menagerie led to some very entertaining faces pulled by the children. As well as the workshops everyone had a chance to explore the other delights Longleat has to offer such as the Animal Kingdom, Boat Safari and Koala Creek. The Koala’s were a firm favourite of many.
The afternoon saw us take off after lunch onto buses for an African safari. What a feast for the eyes! Lions, zebras, giraffes, gazelles and rhinos to name a few. Liam, in Year 2 shouted, "are we actually in Africa?’’ as it had such a genuine feel. The children thoroughly enjoyed the day and are now producing some wonderful work as a result of the experience.
