NEW HEAD ANNOUNCEMENT
We are delighted to announce that Matthew Williams will succeed Mark Mortimer as Headmaster of the School from 1 September 2019. Matt joins us from Sidcot School, Somerset, where he has been the Deputy Head since 2014. Having started his teaching career at the Licensed Victuallers’ School in Ascot, as a teacher of English and drama, he then spent 14 years at Rugby School. At Rugby, he was Head of Department and then Housemaster of a senior boys’ boarding house. He has coached both 1st XI cricket and 1st XV rugby, directed numerous productions and established the successful Arts Festival at Rugby.
The burgeoning reputation and standing of Warminster School resulted in an excellent field of candidates applying to become the next Head. Ultimately, Matt shone through with his drive, personality and experience. Importantly, he will build on the work led by the current Head, and he will be supported by the whole Warminster community. The Governors are clear that the School needs a Head who will provide the drive and determination vital for further improvement in uncertain times. We are confident that we have appointed that person.
Matt was educated at King Edward VI School, Birmingham, and holds an MA from the University of Manchester. He is married to Nicola, a Year 3 teacher, and they have three young children, all of whom will become pupils at the School.
Commenting on his appointment, Matt said, “I am delighted and honoured to be appointed as the next Headmaster of Warminster School. It is an exceptional school, with a long history and an exciting future. Nicola and I have been inspired by the strong sense of community, the care and individual attention offered to the pupils, as well as the wonderful relationships that exist between all those who live and work at the School. The sense of pride and affection for Warminster is clear from everyone I have met and I feel privileged to be inheriting such a flourishing school and leading it forward in the years to come.”
