MP VISIT
On Friday 8th March Warminster School pupils were very fortunate to have a visit from our local MP, Dr Andrew Murrison, who took time out of his very busy schedule to talk to pupils. He began by spending some time with 6th Form Politics pupils. Teacher of Business, Economics and Politics at Warminster, Hywel Carr, said, ‘’Our A-Level pupils greatly appreciated their time with local MP Andrew Murrison. As well as learning more about how the Brexit issue is unfolding in parliament from someone who is actually there participating in the debates, there was a very interesting discussion on the subject of votes at 16.’’
After this Andrew had a question and answer session with Year 6, whose Geography topic this term has been the European Union, looking specifically at Brexit. Interestingly most pupils voted to leave in our own poll. The questions they asked ranged from asking Andrew why he wanted to be an MP, how it affects his everyday life, whether he wanted to be Prime Minister (no he does not), and if he voted to remain or leave. Some had definitely done their homework and asked him about his research into the brains of divers! We learnt that the Houses of Parliament are just like Hogwarts and that he is incredibly busy. Year 6 pupil Elizabeth Valentine, said of the visit, ‘’I learnt that he is very busy as an MP but that he can have a huge impact on the local community. It is a worthwhile job and very rewarding too.’’
