MFL SPEAKING COMPETITION

MFL SPEAKING COMPETITION

Ten of our language pupils spent a highly successful day at a Modern Foreign Languages Speaking Competition. The event was organised by Routes into Languages South West and held at The Royal High School in Bath. About 65 pupils from different year groups showed off their language skills on a range of topics.

Every pupil presented in either the non-native or the near-native category of their age group and were judged by a panel of linguists. The competitors taking part were: Ben Pearson, Izzy Robinson, Mathias Folkesson, Freya Smye, Katherine Caldwell, Jade Hartley, Victor de Ridder, Vagif Gadimov, Claudia Eeles and Matteo Scaburri. Competing against other enthusiastic language learners and presenting in front of a room full of teachers and pupils, they spoke fluently and confidently, with the hard work of the last four months really paying off. The following pupils have earned themselves a place in the regional final to be held at Bath University at the end of June.

Claudia Eeles (winner non-native KS 5)

Mathias Folkesson (runner-up non-native KS 3)

Matteo Scaburri (runner-up near-native KS 5)

Vagif Gadimov (runner-up near-native KS 4)

Miss Mugridge, who organised the trip to Bath Royal High School, said: ”I was extremely impressed by their dedication and commitment throughout the preparation and rehearsal stages, and I was very proud of their confident performances on the day.”
