MARATHON SUCCESS FOR HEADS IN THE SAND

MARATHON SUCCESS FOR HEADS IN THE SAND

Whilst we were all tucking into chocolate eggs and hot cross buns, the Headmaster and Julian Thomas, Master of Wellington College, took on and survived the gruelling Marathon des Sables.

The 32nd Marathon des Sables, in the Sahara Desert, consisted of 6 stages over 7 days in temperatures of around 50°C to complete the 250km (156 miles) course. We were all gripped by the online race coverage – including a live web cam which captured competitors crossing the finish line. Spectators at home were also able to use the competitor tracking system, which allowed us to follow the Headmaster daily and keep up to speed via Twitter updates from the MDS Twitter account.

The racing duo have already raised half of their target. For the building of the teachers' village for Friends of St Michael to start, Heads in the Sand need to raise £10,000 for the main accommodation blocks.  A dinner and 'Audience with Heads in the Sand'  will be organised to raise further funds for those who wish to hear about the full race story.

This impressive challenge has certainly inspired the Warminster community and we wonder what the Headmaster will take on next!
