LOVE OF LANGUAGES
Five pupils ranging from Year 9 to Lower Sixth took part in the regional final of a Modern Foreign Languages Competition on 29 June at the University of Bristol.
Mathias Folkesson, Claudia Eeles and Matteo Scaburri spoke confidently in the speaking competition, having earned their place during the first round in March. They presented in Spanish, Italian and German and covered topics ranging from football hooligans to the pressures of the media on women.
Claudia Eeles earned the runner-up position in her category, while Matteo won his category against tough competition.
Maisie Fogg and Joe Sargent were entered into the pop video competition having written, produced and recorded their own original Spanish song. In an 'Oscars' style awards ceremony, they were crowned the winners of the 15-18 category – a fantastic achievement.
Nicola Rogers, Head of MFL said “A huge thank you to Miss Mugridge for giving our talented language pupils the opportunity to show off their knowledge and present in front of a large audience and Miss Mitterrutzner for assisting with the preparation of the presentations. Unfortunately, the organiser of the language competition, Routes into Languages, has lost their funding, which will make it increasingly difficult for them to put on similar events in the future. Despite this, we very much hope that opportunities of a similar nature will continue next year.”
