Lewis plays Ronnie Scott’s

Earlier this month, Lewis Tomlinson (Lower Sixth) was invited to play his trumpet at Ronnie Scott's, the legendary London jazz club.
I was delighted to learn that I would be allowed to participate in the Big Band in a Day scheme which takes place at Ronnie Scott's on the fourth Sunday of each month. As a keen trumpet player and jazz enthusiast, I jumped at the opportunity.
It was a daunting prospect to learn two pieces of music with people you have never played with before and a director who swore at you when you got something wrong. As scary as that idea seemed at the time, when I got up on stage and performed in front of a paying audience, it was an incredible feeling!
I can barely put it into words – to be able to play on the same stage as my trumpet heroes was absolutely outstanding. I strongly urge anyone who is interested in this to put themselves forward and apply. It is a day I certainly will never forget.
Lewis plays his trumpet in the School's jazz band, concert band and brass ensemble. He is also a founding member of the recently established ukulele orchestra and passed his grade 8 singing exam this term.
