LEGO ROBOTICS

Year 7 & Year 8 Warminster Lego Robotics Team: Alex Moxham, Archie Best, Liza Novokreshchenova, Maisie-Lee Mead, Joe McQuilton and Will Mowbray

On Thursday 17th January, the School’s Lego Robotics team travelled to Bristol for the regional finals of the FIRST Lego League competition, which is an annual event that promotes creative thinking and problem solving.  During the day, the team had to: present their solution to an engineering problem to a panel of expert judges, based on the difficulties of space travel; compete with their robot against other teams over a series of challenges against the clock; and present once again to the judges, this time about their robot design.

The team performed brilliantly, and were fantastic representatives of the School.  In particular, the judges were thoroughly impressed by their eloquent and confident presentations, the 'grace under pressure' that they exhibited during the robot challenges, and their enthusiasm and teamwork.  Indeed, they were so impressed that the team won the robot design award – no mean feat against 20 other teams, many of them comprised of Year 10 and 11 pupils.  The challenge for the team next year is to go one better and win the overall best team prize – and with it the chance for national and international competitions.
