LEARNING AT LONGLEAT

LEARNING AT LONGLEAT

On Wednesday 3 May, Year 1 embarked on a visit to Longleat House, which, in the words of Monty, was, “very old like Grandpa”.  We were greeted by two lovely stewards who welcomed us and took us on a fascinating tour of the old toys that the children of Longleat House used to play with. We were shown how to play a game using coins and a long table from 500 years ago and were impressed by the 200-year-old dolls houses. Incredibly, as we learned, the children had made all the soft furnishings themselves and local workers had even crafted some of the furniture for them from animal bones! We also saw spinning tops, rocking horses, marbles and yo-yos, as well as many other toys.

After our informative and enjoyable tour, we went on a bug hunt looking for the giant bugs whilst visiting the animals in the Animal Kingdom. We particularly enjoyed the penguins and stingrays and loved getting up close and personal with the lizard from Argentina. After heading off to the adventure playground, for a quick monkey around, we departed on Safari, driven by Miss Smith. What an intrepid lot of explorers we are!
