LANGUAGES FUN

LANGUAGES FUN

For the fourth year running, Warminster School invited Year 5 pupils from various prep schools in the area to the event “Languages Fun at Warminster!”  on 29th June.  Around 70 pupils and their teachers from Salisbury Cathedral School, Springmead, Chafyn Grove and Warminster Prep  accepted the invitation and had a day filled with great French and Spanish activities.

Assisted by some of Warminster School’s Year 9 linguists, our visitors took part in a French treasure hunt and learnt a Spanish or French song, as well as creating a music video in which the whole group performed it. Even though there was only a short time to learn the songs and record the videos, the standard was excellent! The judges for the showcase at the end of the day, Head of MFL, Mrs Rogers, departing Year 13 linguist Maisie Fogg and Matron of Old Vicarage Boarding House, Mrs Santana, had a tough decision to make.

Other highlights of the day included every pupil receiving their very own “Language Passport” that was used for the activities throughout the day, as well as listening to a presentation about languages by a group of Sixth Form pupils who highlighted the numerous reasons why it is important to learn foreign languages, including boosting your brain power.

The Year 9 pupils impressed with some excellent leadership skills and the best pupils in each group were awarded with a certificate.

Miss Mugridge, the main organiser of the event, was very pleased with the day and said ”We hope all Prep School pupils had a fun day and are enthusiastic about learning languages – we are already looking forward to next year when we will be able to include German, the third language that’s taught at Warminster School, too!”
