JOINING THE BOARDING ORCHARD
On Tuesday 25th February, we welcomed Robin Fletcher, Chief Executive of The Boarding Schools Association (BSA) for a tree planting ceremony, welcoming Warminster School into the Boarding Orchard.
The Boarding Orchard was launched by the BSA in 2014. It aims to be the largest orchard, by distance, in the UK and involves boarding schools joining the orchard by planting fruit trees in their grounds. The trees symbolise the ‘tree of knowledge’ and demonstrate each school’s commitment to growth and caring for the environment. Since the launch, schools across the UK – including Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland – have joined the Boarding Orchard and trees have also been planted at boarding schools in Switzerland and the USA.
Despite the horrendous weather, our wonderful grounds team had selected a beautiful plum tree, which was planted in the garden of St. Denys, which is visited by many of the boarders. Alongside, Robin was the Headmaster, Finn (Head Boy), Freya (Head Girl), who are both boarders, Mrs Shanks, Assistant Head (Pastoral and Boarding) and Murphy for the planting cemerony.
