IT’S JUST CRICKET!

Year 11 pupil, Edward Vickery, tells us about his cricket journey and recent success. Ed was named Wiltshire U15 Player of the Season 2018.  (02 ECB U15 league runs and an average of 50.6 for U15 in Wiltshire).

“I started playing cricket for my local team in Corsham when I was 8 years old.  From there I joined the Wiltshire cricket programme and for the last 6 years I’ve played consistently for them.  Playing county cricket is rather different to playing within a school setting and I haven’t always found it easy – I was never sure what position I might be playing in and there weren’t always other players that I knew.  Last season didn’t start well as although I was finally placed in my favourite batting position, my first ball was a duck – I couldn’t believe it!  However, I was really lucky to be given another opportunity and stayed in considerably longer, clocking up a decent number of runs.  Overall last season I scored over 300 runs with an average score of 50.  At the start of the season I could never have dreamt that I would have finished with such a high score.  I am absolutely thrilled to receive Player of the Season for U15s in Wiltshire.  Winning the award has really inspired me to continue playing cricket and I am excited to see what the future might bring.”
