INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL EVENT
On Friday 18th March, the International Students' Society hosted the first International Festival Event. The event was an opportunity for different nationalities and cultures at Warminster to showcase their countries and cultures. There were 8 manned stands (China and Hong Kong, Spain, Russia, Thailand, Switzerland, Germany, USA) complete with displays, posters and information about their countries. Pupils were encouraged to visit each stand to find out more about the country and to ask questions of the international pupils. The library was busy during lunchtime with over a 100 visitors, including Year 6 pupils from the Prep School, who were all issued with passports to complete about the different countries on show.
The whole event was a great success and had a brilliant buzz. It was a wonderful occasion for the international pupils at the school to speak about and show off their countries and they spoke so passionately about them. The ISS is looking to host a similar event next year, with more countries.
Sarah Shanks, Head of EAL commented about the success of the event, “The event was a great success and the ISS would like to thank Mrs Field and Mrs Kennett for the use of the library and for being so accommodating. We would also like to thank all the pupils who were involved and who produced displays. The visitors were also able to vote on the best country, i.e. the country which gave them the best experience and I am pleased to announce that after a very close competition with only 4 votes between the winner and China in second place, that the prize goes to Spain and the group leader, Jara Torrego. Well done to all involved.”
