GOING ON A BUG HUNT!

GOING ON A BUG HUNT!

As part of their current topic on minibeasts our Reception children were invited to the Biology lab by Mrs Walmsley, Mrs Reynolds and Mrs Brown, they were able to look in great detail at some remarkable creatures and use some equipment not normally available to such young children.

Moving around four stations they 'got up close and personal’  with woodlice, slugs and snails and mealworm beetles and larvae. At the fourth station they were able to use a microscope, an iPad with a smartphone magnifier microscope attachment and a Motic camera linked to a laptop to view beetles and snail shells in amazing detail.

They then moved out to St Boniface Lawn where they saw the School’s recently acquired bee hives and, thanks to the chilly weather, rather drowsy bumble bees. They finished their trip with the chance to use pooters to catch some of the myriad of small creatures inhabiting the borders around the lawn. The children were full of excitement as they came away and they would like to thank the aforementioned Senior School staff who made the morning so enjoyable and informative for them.
