GCSE Art trip to Holburne Museum of Art
The Year 10 GCSE Art pupils are studying “still life” as their theme this term and visited the Holburne Museum of Art in Bath for the opportunity to observe 17th Century still life paintings and artefacts that could influence their own artwork.
The pupils were greeted by Christina Parker, Head of Education, who gave a useful insight into the Museum’s history and its collection of artwork and old artefacts. After this introduction the pupils were given a guided tour of the art collection.
“We were shown the still life paintings and artefacts like spoons and ceramic vases. This relates to our current project of still life and was very useful. We were then allowed to observe and look around the museum and complete some tasks that we had been set. These included studying still life paintings in great detail and drawing detailed sections which proved to be more challenging than expected.” – Freya Austin, Year 10
The pupils are now working on their own still life paintings in response to their visit.
