EXPELLIARMUS!

EXPELLIARMUS!

This term, Year 5 and 6 have been immersed in the enchanted world of Hogwarts and Harry Potter.  This unit of work was brought to life by the fantastic opportunity to escape the muggle world and visit Harry Potter Studios, organised by Prep Head of English, Stephanie Sheppard.

The children had a wonderful day and continue to be inspired by the wonder and awe they experienced whilst touring the studios.  Every child came away enthused by the experience and here are just a few of their reactions:

“What was through the door was an experience you will never forget…”  William Sharpe, Year 6

“It is truly magical and fun to see all the creativity from the Harry Potter books and films.”  Callum Southall, Year 6

“The forbidden forest was my favourite.  We screamed when the spiders moved, bowed to Buckbeak, made an “Expecto Patronum” and were creeped out by the mysterious fog on the ground.”  Sam Evans, Year 6

“There was an area where you could learn some moves to defend yourself against the dark arts. I wasn`t missing that! I grabbed a wand with some of my friends and we learnt some awesome moves.”  Molly Morris, Year 6

The children’s learning has been enriched by the experience of visiting the world-famous authentic sets of one of the most successful film series of all time. This stimulating visit exposed the children to the extraordinary artistry, technology and talent that went into creating the Harry Potter film series.

Back at Warminster Prep, their engagement has been testament to the success of the trip. They have been exploring and experimenting with the authorial techniques used by J. K. Rowling to create her vivid characters and magical world; used the power of persuasion to convince the Sorting Hat to place them in their chosen house and writing spells and magical instructions.  In their Drama lessons they have recreated Diagon Alley using physical theatre and split scenes, used mime to portray transformation spells and also devised their own performances inspired by the text.
