EARTH DAY

Over the Easter break the Prep pupils took up the ‘Head’s Challenge’ to produce a piece of work based on Earth Day. Earth Day, celebrated on 22 April, aims to raise awareness of global environmental issues including climate change, pollution and recycling. The children were welcome to use any medium they wished to express their ideas, whilst being asked to be as creative as possible.
The first Celebration Assembly of the Summer Term focused on the pupils’ efforts. Volunteers from Reception all the way up to Year 6 shared their work with the whole school; this included a news report interviewing some of the worlds leading professors and a video, made in Switzerland, explaining the importance of recycling.
Mr Titley writes, “I have been truly overwhelmed by the number of children who took on my Head’s Challenge. The creativity shown by the children and the way in which each one of them was willing to talk about their work with confidence and enthusiasm was hugely impressive. I have been extremely pleased to see the children engage in their learning outside of the classroom to produce a piece of independent work. Overall, the children’s work showed a real awareness of global issues.”
All of the pupils’ projects (apart from the selection of baked items) will be on display in the Prep School this term, please feel free to pop in and have a look.
