DENIM FOR DEMENTIA
A JEANius idea! Warminster Raises Awareness with Denim for Dementia
Warminster participated in a vibrant and meaningful initiative – Denim for Dementia. Pupils and staff donned their favourite denim attire to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s support. The day not only showcased school spirit but also highlighted the importance of understanding and addressing dementia.
Annie Clayton from Alzheimer’s Support took a special lecture aimed at our sixth formers. Her presentation was both informative and engaging, shedding light on the realities of living with dementia and the vital role that friends and community play in supporting those affected by the condition. Following the lecture, all pupils became “Dementia Friends,” equipped with the knowledge and empathy needed to make a difference.
Rachel Fear from Alzheimer’s Support expressed her gratitude, stating, “We are so grateful for the support from Warminster School. The funds raised will go towards the Old Silk Works Day club for people living with dementia here in Warminster. We have a very special relationship with the school; some of the children visit the day club regularly, and our members love seeing them. Thanks to everyone for getting involved — we think you all rock!”
The combination of wearing denim and learning about dementia has sparked important conversations among pupils and staff alike. It’s heartening to see the community come together for such an essential cause, and the funds raised will undoubtedly contribute to much-needed resources and support for individuals and families affected by Alzheimer’s disease.
Lisa Cook, Warminster School’s Community Outreach Co-ordinator said “Warminster is proud to take part in Denim for Dementia, who knew there was so many types of denim! We have so far raised £560 with more to follow and it was a great way to head into half term spreading such an important message.”
