Gillian Walmsley our resident 'Bee Lady' is pleased to announce the safe arrival of two sets of bumble bees via the postal service!
This is part of Year 7's academic enrichment programme in our Green Zone. Pupils have researched the different types of bees and hives, the flora and fauna needed for the bees to live happily and the best location for the hives on our site.
The bee hives join a suite of nature encouraging homes, including hedgehog houses and insect boxes. Now that the bees are here we will continue to develop our environment in the creation of a nature trail. Gillian said “I am delighted that our bees our finally here, it is a fantastic project for our pupils to take on. Once our bees are installed in their new homes amazingly it will only take them 20 minutes to map the area of their new location.”
