BIRDS IN ART
We were delighted to be involved with the Princecroft Arts week and welcomed Princecroft Year 5 and 6 to the Art Department last week to experience Warminster Art lessons.
Year 5 had been investigating Birds in Art and we delivered a lesson based on the work of Charley Harper to create a paper bird sculpture inspired by his designs and patterns. The pupils were enthusiastic and came up with some interesting and unique ways to decorate their birds, which resulted in vibrant and eye-catching pieces.
Year 6 focused on portraits and how to create a self-portrait using pencil. They worked very hard to understand the proportions of the face and created some wonderful careful work.
The two days were a great success and we were thrilled to be able to collaborate with Princecroft in this way. As one pupil from Princecroft commented ‘This is Art heaven’.
Head of Art, Louisa Clayton commented, “This was an exciting collaboration which allowed Princecroft pupils to use our subject specific classrooms and take inspiration by the range of work, resources and artefacts on display in the department. They were a delight to teach and their final pieces were striking.”
