World Book Day 2010

The first Thursday in March is World Book Day and Warminster School celebrated this global event for the ninth year in a row and once again, it was a great success.
The celebrations had started 24 hours earlier for Mrs Parrack’s Year 7 English set who, along with the Literature IB1 students had to track down a killer hedgehog that had attempted to do away with Mr Mawer (Head of Geography)! Fortunately, the pupils were able to unravel cryptic clues, awesome anagrams and painful puns on the trail around the school. The winning team of Esther, Jannike and Emma, were ably assisted by Sophie Morgan.
The day itself was very chilly but that didn’t stop Patrick James and Tim Robinson of Year 11, coming as Zeus and Tarzan, respectively. They had very little on in the way of costumes! Year 11 made a fantastic effort and Chris Stone as The Joker was truly disturbing!
Other highlights, no pun intended, were Josh Eustace and Andrew Langford, as Roald Dahl’s B.F.G., Molly Smith and Becky Wicks were fabulous bumble bees and one couldn’t resist prodding their chubby tummies! Sorry girls!
James McComas as The Gingerbread Man was hilarious. By the time James was in his costume, he was 7 foot tall! Tom Whitchurch had the right idea on such a cold day, by dressing in furs, as Dr. Zhivago. Amy James of Year 8 and Ryan Lee of Year 7 kept warm with Amy as a chocolate bar from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Ryan as the wardrobe from The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe!
The staff made a tremendous effort too. Ms Davies was a poignant Pierrot and Mrs Wilson a very severe looking Miss Marple. I hope that she met up with Jonathan Tinsley of Year 9 as Poirot, later in the day!
At the time of writing, I am unable to reveal the short story competition winners but all will be revealed in assembly on Friday 12th, when all the prizes will be awarded.
Thank you to everyone who made the effort to dress up and the money raised will be going to a charity chosen by the School Council.
Mrs. Parrack.
