Warminster pupil running for UK Youth Parliament

Year 12 Warminster School Student, Juliana Suess, is campaigning for her election as a member of the UK Youth Parliament and the Wiltshire Assembly of Youth. She has so far presented to Year 7 during a Lower School assembly and plans to speak to Middle and Upper School over the next few days, informing them of her aims and objectives should she be voted in to the Youth Parliament.

Juliana says of her candidacy: ‘At the moment I stand for the WAY and UKYP elections. WAY is the Wiltshire Assembly of Youth while UKYP is the United Kingdom Youth Parliament. Both work like the School Council, in which young people have a say but both are independent from School. I want to get into these because I want to improve certain things. I want young people to be able to decide and to say if they think that something has to be changed.

One of the things I personally think have to be improved is activities. I think that, especially in bigger cities, young people do not know what to do. That is why some of them end up hanging around, smoking and drinking alcohol without doing anything else. Therefore I want to encourage Youth Centres to set up activities such as music, sport, drama and environmentally active groups to help them and others.

Another aspect that needs to be improved is the transport system. When young people want to go from one place to another to their friends and enjoy their free time, they have to pay a lot of money to do so. I think there should be a special card for young people, which allows them to travel a few miles without spending half their pocket money.

A big topic for the youth at the moment is university fees. £9,000 a year is not only a vast amount of money, it also prevents many people from going to University. Of course I cannot change that immediately but I will stand up for it whenever I can.

If you think that these things are important and that I would do a good job, you can vote for me if you are between the ages of 11 – 18. All you have to do is send a text message saying ‘elect Juliana’ to 80800. The election is free and does not cost you anything.

Thank you for your attention and support’.

With the help of students and parents alike Warminster School would like to offer every possible encouragement to Juliana as she embarks on such a worthwhile personal endeavour. Should you wish to vote for Juliana you can do so by texting ‘elect Juliana’ to 80800, FREE of charge.

Many thanks for your support.

All at the School wish Juliana the best of luck in her candidacy.
