Record-breaking exam performance from Upper Sixth Formers

Up and down the country, A Level results were published today - and our Upper Sixth Formers here at Warminster School can be justifiably proud of their achievements. When combined with the results of the IB students whose results came out in early July, this cohort has smashed the school record for UCAS points per candidate with an average of well over 350 UCAS points per candidate – a rise of over 20% compared to last year.

With an overall pass rate of 98% and with almost 50% of these at grades at A and B, this year’s A Level students have continued the tradition of academic excellence that has been established at the school in recent times and produced the highest average of UCAS points ever achieved at Warminster School.

There were many outstanding individual performances. Top scholar was last year’s Head Boy, Simon Bourne, who achieved five straight As at A Level. He will now take up his place to read Engineering at Cambridge University, where he may bump into Robert King, whose IB result earlier this summer secured his place to read History at Cambridge. There were excellent performances too from James Gray, Alex Blandford, William Lau and Long Vu who amassed 13 A grades between them. James will go on to read Engineering at Bristol University, William to read Chemistry also at Bristol and Alex and Long will study Mathematics at Warwick and Southampton respectively.

Frances James and Jenny Allen both attained two As and a B grade. Jenny has secured a much sought-after place to read Veterinary Science at the Royal Veterinary College whilst Frances will study Marine Biology at Southampton.

Their outstanding results reflect the endeavour of a talented Upper Sixth Form and the diligence of a committed staff. We are particularly pleased with the percentage of grades at A and B which shows that we have successfully stretched the very brightest at Warminster School. Following the strong results produced by our first cohort of International Baccalaureate Sixth Formers earlier in the summer, this has indeed been a memorable exam season for our senior students. Between them, they have attained the highest number of university entry points per candidate in the school’s history: well over 350 UCAS points per candidate - a huge rise of over 20% on last year’s results. My colleagues and I wish them every success as they move on from Warminster and begin exciting new chapters in their lives.”
