The Bell Tolls for the Old Vic

Three boys from the Old Vic have been training as Campanologists in the bell tower of the Minster. Each Thursday evening George Williams, Lewis Tarplee and Oliver Case have been learning to ring the bells (which is not as easy as you would imagine) under the guidance of the Captain of the Bell Tower. The experienced team of regular ringers are very impressed by the boys’ commitment and progress and hope that they will soon move on to ringing a round with them.

Lewis said, “It’s incredible to think that every time you pull the rope, the whole of Warminster can hear you! I’ll never make more noise than this.” The boys were amazed to find that some of the bells date back to the 17th century and weigh in at 2.5 tonnes. When the bells are in full flow you can feel the tower moving!

Many thanks to Mr Taylor who takes them on a Thursday evening.
