Keep Safe training visited the School on Sunday 22nd January to hold a Ladies only Personal Safety Seminar.
Instructors, 6ft 6inch, male, Jai and 5ft 4inch, female, Diane explained to the ladies in attendance the importance of being aware and knowing what to do if you are faced with a volatile situation.
Their training was based around one important factor; it is not about how big or strong you are, but about ‘body mechanics’ and how you present yourself in certain situations. This was demonstrated clearly by the sheer size difference between Jai and Diane and how easy it was for Diane to defend herself from Jai when he ‘attacked’ her, using just her index finger!
Having demonstrated various techniques to the girls, everyone stood up out of their chairs and began practising, in pairs, the defensive moves they had learnt. Using slow Tai-Chi movements to perfect their styles and prevent accidental injury the girls were able to fend off their ‘attackers’ with ease.
Other areas covered by Jai and Diane during the Seminar included, how to not become an ‘easy target’, avoidance and appropriate action.
We hope with the help of workshops and Seminars such as these that it will enable women to feel safer when out on their own or in small groups. The School would like to thank Diane and Jai for coming to the School and putting on such a practical and informative session.
