International Baccalaureate Group 4 Project 2008
This year's Group 4 Science Project provided a valuable experience for all the IB1 students and a fun end to their science studies this year. Working together in groups, each student was able to offer expertise in their chosen area of science (from physics, chemistry or biology) to their team project. Each project considered the environmental, social and ethical implications of science and technology, with t
he emphasis of the project being on co-operation and the processes involved in scientific investigation.
This year the projects looked at the science behind coffee, marshmallows, tennis, yoghurt and cola, investigating a wide range of issues as well as designing dedicated practical experiments. Some projects included some ‘taste testing’ which other students from the school were keen to help out with!
At the end of the days spent in the laboratories, each group presented their findings to an audience of teachers and students in Boniface Hall, with posters and ICT. All the teams produced excellent presentations with the Tennis Project being awarded first for science. Well done to all the teams who took part and a special thank you to Ms Davis, our Group 4 leader, Mrs Angell and Mrs Hill, our science technicians.
