Following his achievement in being awarded the role of Lord Lieutenant’s Cadet at a ceremony at Devizes Town Hall in 2010, and soon after being asked to accompany the Lord Lieutenant for a Royal engagement with Her Royal Highness, The Duchess of Cornwall, Mark has now gained another military accolade. Mark, who recently accepted the Headmaster’s offer of the position of Head Boy for the coming academic year, has been awarded a highly sought after Sixth Form Scholarship, having demonstrated exceptional leadership with potential to be an Army Officer, at a recent selection board. This will not only provide financial support while he continues to study towards his International Baccalaureate Diploma at Warminster School, but will also entitle him to financial sponsorship while at university. Mark is pictured alongside his parents and Mark Hayward, the school’s SSI. The Sixth Form
Scholarship is a particularly prestigious award and is fully deserved. Scholarships are awarded on merit, irrespective of background or method of schooling and are determined by a series of interviews including both physical and mental tests. With only 100 scholarships awarded nationally each year, competition is tough. In addition to the scholarship, Mark has been offered a provisional place at the Royal Military Academy at Sandhurst. Once he finishes university, Mark will complete a further year of training at Sandhurst, after which he will be expected to serve a minimum of 3 years in the Army. We send Mark our congratulations on this great achievement and wish him well in the challenges ahead.
