On the weekend of 24th September the Old Vic and Northdown boarding houses went on their annual team bonding trip to Weymouth. Below is an account of the trip.
Saturday
On Saturday we were all woken up by the fire alarm as Mr Knight wanted us all up bright and early. We had breakfast and then loaded up the minibuses for our hour and a half drive to Weymouth and Portland. We drove straight to our base, Boscawen House and then took the short journey into Weymouth where we had lunch at the ‘Marlboro’ fish and chip shop, the best fish and chip shop in town, says Mr Knight. After eating down by the harbour wall we split ourselves into three groups to go on the White Water Weymouth speed boat. This took us out to the surrounding bay where next year’s summer Olympic sailing and windsurfing is being held. The driver of the boat was determined to get us wet with quick reversible manoeuvres. Sometimes he succeeded and sometimes he didn’t. We were then able to have some fun time on the Weymouth sandy beach, playing touch rugby, making sand castles and even for some, going on the donkey rides. After a lovely afternoon we then made our way back to Boscawen house for a fantastic, yet a little burnt barbeque. After tea a few of us made the short walk down to Chesil beach to throw some stones into the sea. The great day finished with coco and X-factor before we made our way up to bed.
Sunday
On Sunday instead of waking up to the house wake-up alarm we were woken by a series of cheers from Mr Crinion watching his beloved Ireland running in eight tries against Romania. After a quick shower, toast, cereal and bacon butties we then prepared our packed lunches for the day ahead. Mr Knight then took us to visit Portland Bill where we were able to do some climbing and able to take some photos of the lighthouse and sea currents. We then made our way to PGL Osmington Bay to participate in two activities: the Sensory trail and Jacobs’s ladder. Jacobs’s ladder was a bit scary when you were high up because the wind was really strong. The Sensory trail was where we went around an obstacle course blindfolded, and it was really hard. After completing our two activities we made our journey back to Warminster. You know we had a good time because all the girls were asleep. Thank you very much to Mr Knight for organising the trip and for all the other staff for helping out.

Northdown Report
On Saturday 24th September 2011 Northdown and Old Vicarage Houses set of to the wonderful Weymouth. We all got packed and put our bags in the bus. The journey was an hour and a half but it was great fun listening to music and singing. Then we got to the big house. We all got our bags and Mr Knight showed us to our rooms. All of us were really happy about our room selection and we all raced up to get the best bed. We had to make our beds and then went straight into town.
The first place we went to was the fish and chip shop. Mr Knight got our orders and we sat on a wall by the river listening to and watching the traditional dancers. When we finished Mr Knight introduced us to the speedboat crew who were going to take us on a speedboat ride. The year 7 boys went first then the girls. We went over big waves and got splashed with water.
After our speedboat ride we went and had fun on the beach. We all went into the sea and were splashing around. After being tired out by the beach we headed back to the big house. We got into some warm clothes and went into the garden. The boys played football and the girls sunbathed on the hill. Then Mr Moffat started the barbeque and we enjoyed sausages and burgers. We headed inside for roll call and Mrs Crinion told us to go upstairs and get ready to watch the amazing X-Factor. After a tiring day we all headed upstairs to bed dreaming what the next day might have in store.
On Sunday morning we got up and the thoughts of the exciting day ahead spurred even the sleepiest heads down for breakfast.
Our first stop of the day was to a rocky Cliffside with a lighthouse. We climbed in and out of the rock falls and stood gazing at the churning sea below. Mr Moffat and Mr Vermont made a perilous climb to the top of a particularly high rock and back down again.
Our next stop was PGL. We were split up and one half did a sensory trail where they were blindfolded and had to work together to warn each other of upcoming obstacles by feeling them and then giving instructions as to how to get past them. After lunch we swapped over and our second activity was Jacobs Ladder, a series of wooden logs spaced further apart the higher you climbed. Almost everyone reached the top in the time limit of 7 minutes. Even Mr Knight and Josh had a go! It was quite windy and nerve racking, especially when the instructor gave the ladder a shake just for fun!
It was a great weekend and over all too soon. We had a wonderful time and thank you to all the staff that came.
