Sport and Physical Education are of central importance at Warminster School. We believe that competitive team games and individual sporting disciplines both play an essential role in the development of pupils into healthy, well rounded adults.
The Sports Department strives for excellence in terms of individual results and team performance, often identifying talent early through the School's house competitions. Many boys and girls go on to represent the School at county and regional level. Yet at the same time, teachers work hard to ensure that
all boys and girls - including those who are not natural sportsmen - have ample opportunities to reach their full potential.
Sport at Warminster School is continually expanding. We have more boys and girls wanting to participate and represent the school. To cater for this we have employed a number of additional specialists, including top level sports coaches in Hockey, Rugby, Netball and Tennis to compliment our full-time PE teachers, Sports Assistants and Director of Sport.
Regular fixtures against other schools are held for both A and B teams at all age levels, either midweek in their games afternoons or on a Saturday.
Warminster School has a full range of modern sports facilities including a newly resurfaced astroturf, a large sports hall catering for 4 badminton courts, five Indoor Cricket nets, an Indoor Netball Court, an Indoor Tennis court and Indoor Hockey with new side boards. There is also a fully equipped fitness studio and a small classroom attached. The recently expanded playing fields has enabled the school to provide 5 rugby pitches, six football pitches, 6 new rounders pitches as well a new grass cricket square for 2009. There is also an artificial cricket pitch and 400m grass athletics track at our Cold Harbour playing fields. For the summer months we have a 20m outdoor swimming pool.
Rugby is the main winter sport for boys at the School and hockey for the girls, with cross-country, badminton and basketball also significant. In the spring term the main boys' sports are hockey and football and netball for the girls. In summer, cricket and tennis are the major sports for the boys, alongside athletics, tennis and swimming for girls'.
