Pupils in Years 1 and 2 demonstrated their knowledge of road safety today. A visitor from Wiltshire County Council came in to speak to the children about the importance of road safety and how we should behave when crossing busy roads, such as the one near the School.

The children identified the sorts of vehicles they see each day on our roads, including cars, motorbikes, fire engines, police cars, ambulances, vans and trucks, and the appropriate way to behave when walking next to a busy road.

As well as this the children spoke about how it is the law to put on a seat belt when you get in the car and even told the visitor about some of their special car seats designed to keep them safe.

Once they had told the visitor all they knew about road safety, it was time to put it into practice, on the indoor road the visitor had brought along!

Walking in pairs, the children showed they knew the difference between Pelican, Puffin and Zebra crossings and how to behave when crossing at each one.

The most important message of the day was shouted by the children throughout, that when you are crossing any road you must: STOP, LOOK AND LISTEN.
