At Warminster Prep School small classes ensure good progress, individual attention and support. We aim to encourage each child to develop a sense of achievement and self-worth, together with a positive attitude and high expectations. The learning in the Prep School is centred on YOUR child, and we place the emphasis on how well they perform against their own ability, not how they compare against their peers.

Whilst we follow the National Curriculum, we are not bound to it and are able to offer a broad and balanced curriculum. All children learn French from Year 1, and History, Geography, Religious Education, PHSE, Art, Design Technology, Drama, ICT, Music and P.E are all part of the weekly timetable.

Children enter the Prep School in Year 3, at the age of 7 years. At this stage a large proportion of their lessons are with their form teacher, who keeps a careful pastoral eye on them. By Years 5 and 6, children are allocated a class tutor to look after their pastoral care, but will be taught by specialist teachers for their subject lessons. Children are streamed by ability in the core subjects of English and Mathematics but for all other subject lessons they are taught in either their mixed ability class or tutor group.

In addition to work in lessons, children are set prep. This starts as a nightly 10 minutes of weekly spelling or tables practice in Year 3 and rises slightly each year until Year 6 when children receive two 20 minute preps per evening. Preps can be done during the daily supervised prep session as an after school activity or at
home.
