The Phantom is coming!
Warminster School is proud to announce that we have been awarded the performing rights to the world’s most famous musical – The Phantom of the Opera.
Andrew Lloyd-Webber’s masterpiece of musical theatre recently celebrated its 25
th
anniversary and as part of the celebrations, Lord Lloyd-Webber is releasing the performing rights for the show to selected schools. Warminster School is currently scheduled at the first school in the South West to be staging it.
The production will be staged in November 2012 at the Athenaeum Centre in Warminster. Musical Director and Producer, Brian Martineau, said: “Following our production of ‘Beauty and the Beast’ in Frome, we are thrilled to be staging this incredible (and technically very challenging) show and we are delighted to be performing it at the historic Athenaeum Centre. The show will feature 40 pupils from Years 10 to 13 and a large professional live orchestra”.
Production Director, Damian Todres, said “Andrew Lloyd Webber never originally intended for ‘Phantom of the Opera’ to be performed as a school show, but has now acknowledged the near-professional quality some schools display in their output these days. We are proud to be considered amongst this number and look forward to showcasing Warminster School's enviable reputation in the Performing Arts through this ambitious show.”
Far beneath the majesty and splendour of the Paris Opera House, hides the Phantom in a shadowy existence. Shamed by his physical appearance and feared by all, the love he holds for his beautiful protégé Christine Daaé is so strong that even her heart cannot resist. In a show filled with the sights and sounds of a busy Opera House, audiences will be treated to crashing chandeliers, floating boats and some of the most memorable melodies ever written for the stage.
The Phantom of the Opera has been produced in 145 cities, in 27 countries around the world, has been seen by more than 130 million people, and the total worldwide gross is now in excess of $5.6 billion.
With only five performances scheduled for this production, tickets are sure to sell very quickly. Booking for this much anticipated production opens in September 2012.
